What To See
Vintage Fair Organs will have come from all over Britain and beyond to this, the last gathering of the season. In the past organs from Germany, Holland and France have made the trip to the event, coupled with some very rare and fine examples which are only seen "every blue moon".
Each has its own unique sound and each has been restored to its fomer glory. Some have new technology incorporated into the mechanics, allowing digital operation rather than using punched cards as it was in past times.
You don't need to know what kind of organ you are looking at, although enthusiasts will willingly tell you, to see the majesty and craftmanship that has made these mammoth musical instruments such a spectacle. Now only seen at specialist gatherings such as this or playing in town centres up and down the country as part of other attractions to tempt shoppers into the high street.
Some of the organs will have a vast musical catalogue, so if you fancy listening to a specific piece of music, ask, they might have it. Perhaps not some of the modern hits, but hits of yesteryear will be more likely!
